As 2013 marches onward, I'm taking some time out to reflect on what lies in store for this would be trail runner. Of course, it all makes perfect sense, I mean we live in one of the most diverse countries on the planet don't we?! A rich tapestry of mountains, deserts, forests and more! And all right on our doorstep.
My name is James Hallett, a passionate South African and a person yearning to further discover what it is that connects me with the trail. Over the past few years I have come to the realization on numerous occasions, that
trail running is a complete metaphor for life. It’s how we deal with the
obstacles, challenges and need for personal goals which makes us a more proficient runner, a person at ease with their surroundings and complete in their thoughts.
Later his year I will be competing in two of South Africa's premiere trail running events, namely the Skyrun and Otter African Trail Run. But not to win, not even to come second or third. No...my quest is greater then that...it's a journey to a place that is unknown for me, a year of intense training culminating in two races that up until now I have been a mere spectator of, a pair of unique adventures I hope will bring me just a step closer to understanding why it is that I run.
